The old saying \u201cWrite what you know\u201d comes to mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Recently, a new follower on Twitter sent me the tweet \u201cYou\u2019re really beautiful, so I take it you write all your novels from an autobiographical standpoint \u2026 Research &amp; all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">She was sweet, and I took it as a compliment, but it got me thinking. Was she suggesting I\u2019d lived my characters\u2019 lives?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">I write erotica. It\u2019s fiction, though a lot of who I am shapes my female characters. They\u2019re strong women who love deeply, travel the world, and have sex with men\u2014sometimes multiple men at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">So \u2026 is my writing a thinly veiled autobiography? And if you write fiction, what does \u201cWrite what you know\u201d <i>really<\/i> mean?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">It\u2019s not about events, as I can assure you I have not experienced everything I\u2019ve written. For me, it\u2019s about the emotions associated with events. The extent to which I can connect these emotions to an experience, whether real or imagined, is what breathes life into characters and their stories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">How I can write about the beauty of Thailand without actually having been there? Research it. But how can I convey the magic of falling in love there if I\u2019ve never set foot in the country? The answer is I\u2019ve fallen in love before\u2014<i>that<\/i> is the part I know. Along with fear, longing, lust and a range of other emotions, I weave stories from my imagination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">The measure of good writing is how successfully you connect your fiction to your readers\u2014on an emotional and an imaginary plane.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-451\" src=\"http:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/eb_newweb_pic.png\" width=\"175\" height=\"319\" alt=\"eb_newweb_pic\" style=\"float: left; margin: 5px;\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/eb_newweb_pic.png 302w, https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/eb_newweb_pic-165x300.png 165w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\"><strong>Eden Baylee<\/strong><\/span> writes erotica incorporating all her favorite things: travel; culture; and sex.
