It still makes me smile every time I say it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">The main response I get? You must be rolling in it!\u201d or \u201cHow big are your royalty cheques?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">I don\u2019t imagine many nurses or teachers getting asked those questions. There seems to be something about authors that people think we\u2019re as financially secure as Stephen King or Neil Gaiman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">I wish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><br \/>When I explain that, even now, I hold down another job in addition to the writing, as my first love doesn\u2019t pay enough to live on. Having had the good fortune to make friends with a number of indie authors from across the globe, I know this is a common trait \u2013 but non-writers I tell this to look at me askance, as if I had grown a second head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">I can understand that that kind of attitude can put people off saying those magic words, but it shouldn\u2019t \u2013 be proud of the fact that you are creative enough to put pen to paper, or finger to laptop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Come on, now, say it with me; \u201cI am a writer!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-74\" style=\"float: left; margin: 5px;\" alt=\"MMUNSON\" height=\"248\" width=\"175\" src=\"http:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MMUNSON.jpg\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MMUNSON.jpg 1163w, https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MMUNSON-600x850.jpg 600w, https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MMUNSON-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MMUNSON-723x1024.jpg 723w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\"><strong>Matthew Munson<\/strong><\/span> is an Englishman; born in a small seaside town, he finally moved away when he was 24 &#8230; to another seaside town, four miles away, and is still there now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">He wrote his first book at the age of 9, about a space-cowboy who was fleeing from the dinosaurs, and often worried if he had peaked too soon \u2013 until his first book was published in 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Fall From Grace is his debut novel, published by a British publishing company called Inspired Quill, and he\u2019s currently working on a sequel \u2013 albeit interspersed with the odd short story, column and blog.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Matthew is a proponent of autism studies and Deaf Awareness, which he writes about over at his blog (<a href=\"http:\/\/vikingbay.blogspot.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/vikingbay.blogspot.co.uk\/<\/a>) and occasionally, if he is feeling particularly daring, makes the odd vlog here and there.
