The Word Count has been a bit of a bust lately. I thoroughly enjoy putting the show together, but participation is at an all-time low. While I decide what to do about that, continue work on The Arcana Chronicles: The Young Practitioner (and other authorly-type stuff I can\u2019t chat about as of yet), I thought I\u2019d update the blog with a bit of a new feature.<\/span><\/p>\n

Halloween is my absolute favorite time of the year, and every spooky season I celebrate with the traditional \u201c31 Days of Horror.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This year I thought I\u2019d post reviews for what I\u2019m watching and open up comments for your suggestions (NOTE: No SyFy original movies PLEASE. Nothing will ever top Mega Shark vs. Gatoroid<\/i>, thank you very much)<\/span><\/p>\n

First up for October 1st<\/sup> is the dark comedy, Zombieland<\/i><\/strong><\/span> (2009 \u2013 Rated \u2018R\u2019 in the US for language, violence and some zombie chick running around with pasties on her boobs).<\/span><\/p>\n

A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, and a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the Last Twinkie and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

RBWood\u2019s rating (Out of Five): 3.5 Twinkies<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>\"Bill_Murray\"I\u2019ll admit it. Shaun of the Dead<\/i> ruined Zombie comedy flicks for me. Probably review that one later in the month, but this is about (*Spoiler*) Bill Murray, so I\u2019ll move on.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWait, R. B. I thought this movie starred Woody Harrelson as the gun-toting, twinkie-searching lunatic and that guy who played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network<\/i>?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And I\u2019d say \u201cThat was Jesse Eisenberg, and how dare you not mention Emma Stone? Don\u2019t interrupt me while I\u2019m typing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the cast pulls off the horror\/comedy genre really well, Bill Murray stole the show for me. Our zombie-fleeing heroes break into Bill Murray\u2019s home as a refuge, only to find the actor (playing himself) also in hiding. A few bong hits later, and they are all playing Ghostbusters<\/i> using props Murray stole from the original set.<\/span><\/p>\n

Corny? absolutely. Spot on? Oh, you bet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"zombieland2\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The zombies aren\u2019t the slow moving undead creatures of the past. These brain-eating machines can move, and the horror of the scenario the world is in is nicely offset by the humor and the quirkiness of the characters. From each of the main characters named after a city (Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, Little Rock) to the never-ending twinkie quest, this flick is a definite must-see.<\/span><\/p>\n
