{"id":866,"date":"2013-05-12T00:36:48","date_gmt":"2013-05-12T00:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/index.php\/2013\/05\/12\/shekillsmonsters\/"},"modified":"2013-05-12T00:36:48","modified_gmt":"2013-05-12T00:36:48","slug":"shekillsmonsters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rbwood.com\/dir\/shekillsmonsters\/","title":{"rendered":"Roll a d20 for Entertainment&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">One of the things I love about Boston is the local theater scene.&nbsp; The Company One production of&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/beyondabsurdity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Qui Nguyen<\/b><\/a>\u2019s \u201cShe Kills Monsters\u201d was in it\u2019s last evening kickass performances when the wife and I saw it (note to any cast member who happens to read this: 4:00 PM show, the guy with the loud laugh.&nbsp; That was me).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">I write fantasy\u2014so yes.&nbsp; I played D&amp;D when I was younger.&nbsp; And the show is heavy with outstanding references that poke fun and embrace the \u2018game of nerds\u2019 at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">It\u2019s the story of straight-laced Agnes, a 25-year-old schoolteacher who lost her parents and her younger sister, Tilly, in a car accident.&nbsp; While cleaning up her sister\u2019s room, Agnes discovers a D&amp;D game written by the late teen and decides (with the help of Dungeon Master Chuck) to play the weird game her geek-sister had loved so much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">We meet Tilly through her character, Tillius the Paladin, and share in the adventure as Agnes finally finds out who her teenage sister was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">And there are two evil succubi cheerleaders.&nbsp; How can you go wrong with that?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Intertwined with the game, the audience is drawn into the life Tilly led\u2014 we experience her fears, her love and most of all&#8211;her hopes. And we also, along with Agnes, learn a bit about ourselves as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">The cast were fab\u2014each in her or his own way bringing to life a cast of characters born from dice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">&nbsp;<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-865\" style=\"margin: 5px; It\u2019s in its last night, so I\u2019m afraid the review is a bit late to help build an audience.&nbsp; However, if you are local or ever visiting Boston, check out the Boston Center for the Arts and especially the shows that <a href=\"companyone.org\/index.shtml\">Company One<\/a> put on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Bravo and brava.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"> Well do<\/span><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">ne all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">Peace<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the things I love about Boston is the local theater scene.&nbsp;
