evil_pumpkin_by_newcomix-d4h5kdsWelcome to Episode 43 of “The Word Count” podcast!

It’s HALLOWEEN, people!  And this is the Fourth Annual Halloween special.  Ten stories of Ghosties, murder and Goolies for your listening pleasure.

Ten graveyard stories stories this week based on three little words. The three words?

“Knife. Cloak. Blood.”

But before we introduce our cadre of writers, a bit about the show:

What is The Word Count Podcast?

It is a free broadcast by writers for writers.  Simply put, a theme for each show is announced via this site, Twitter and Facebook and writers are given a week or two to write AND RECORD their stories based on said theme.

Why?

Why not, says I.  It’s a great way to practice writing and public speaking.  It’s another way for writers to get their work “out there.”  And I love to meet fellow authors and have a blast putting the show together.  It’s just that simple.

Okay.  Where can I find it?

You can listen to the latest podcast below, subscribe via iTunes or listen at the show’s site.

Krstvr_White_IC. Thomas Smith “Right in the Goolies

I’m cutting and pasting this bio to make sure I’ve captured it correctly (He’s barking. That’s why I like him):

“As many of you already know, Hedge-pigs were invented inYorkshire in the mid thirteen hundreds to exterminate Irishmen. Thoughthe endeavour failed with disastrous consequences for the local turnip population, by 1420, every household claimed at least one hedge-pig per room. By 1421 and the new fad of having more than one room in a house having caught on, hedge-pig to room ratios decreased sharply all over the world. By 1422 it was said that only the very rich and the very inbred (technically one and the same) could boast to having had slept with a hedge-pig. By 1424 it was all over. Hedge-pigs, feeling icky and hard done by formed unions and began marching on the palaces of Europe. At first the elite were shocked, then aroused, then shocked some more. Until a knight by the name of Sir Larry Bip, known as Bip the bopper to his friend Dandy McGee appeared before the King of

Tyrone with a cunning plan. The plan was simple. Ignore the Hedge-pigs until they got bored and wandered off. And it worked. By 1425 only insane people talked about hedge-pigs. By 1426 even the insane were too busy pretending to be Pope to remember to be pretending to be hedge-pigs. Sir Larry bathed in the congratulations of well-wishers right up until February seventeenth 1427 when he was locked up as a madman by the King of Tyrone for prattling on about how he defeated some imaginary monster known as a hedge-pig or something. Later that same year the King of Tyrone was viciously bitten on the toe by his invisible pet.”

MMunson2Matthew Munson
“The Crypt Keeper”

Matthew has never been a Crypt Keeper before .. well, there was one occasion, but he never talks about it. The Official Secrets Act and all that …   His work covers a multitude of sins; he has had two contemporary fantasy novels published by Inspired Quill – Fall From Grace and Leap of Faith – as well as been featured in two American horror anthologies and various fiction magazines.   Matthew blogs about disability, writing and marathons (which he has been known to participate in) over at www.matthewmunson.co.uk, and he is also co-founder of The Two Dyspraxics (T2D). There’s another one, obviously, otherwise the name would just be absurd. T2D raises awareness of a condition called dyspraxia, which he has and waxes lyrical at the drop of a hat.   Lastly, Matthew is an Englishman. Yes, there’s a Gilbert & Sullivan song there, but he won’t be singing it. Even he isn’t that cruel.   Well, maybe he is; keep the earplugs ready and enjoy reading.
